MILESTONES

A milestone appeared when the morning sun,

Arose upon the twenty-third of June,

Because my grandson Henry became one,

One year has passed, already, seems so soon,

But Henry’s standing now, he soon will run,

But now he’s just one, so my grandson will

First walk with careful steps and with caution

Till he learns balance, control, to be still,

Which we all tried to learn, as we grew up,

As children and grandchildren, he will too

If he’s as lucky as I am, my cup

Is full, as Henry’s first year has passed through

The space-time of my seventieth year.

Tis’ then another milestone will appear.

Aren't grandchildren wonderful fun.  Unfortunately, my grandson lives over 500 miles away.  Thank goodness for Skype.  My mom used to say if she had known grandchildren were so much fun she would have had them first.  :-)

Anybody going to the ETHS football game tonight (7:30)?  This is the game where the 1963 football team will be honored at halftime for its induction into the ETHS Hall of Fame.

As I recall the opening game was on a Friday nite at Maine East.  We won handily.   Must've missed my chance to meet Hillary Rodham .

Hmmmm! Now I vaguely recall going to an away nite game or two at Morton ? and Oak Park!

Amazing recall Jeff for knowing the season opener and opponent and that it was a Friday nite!! Just "snoped " you! (Pulled out our Sr Yr book) Opening game our Sr year is indeed Maine East and we won 40-ZIP!!

Didn't we always play Maine Township East as an opening game?  And I think we alternated years so Fall '63 was away, but Fall '62 we played Maine Township East at home.  I don't think anyone in our League, the Suburban League, had any night games for football.  That opening game with MTE was our only non-Suburban League game for football.

Don't remember any "Friday Nite Lights" games, just Saturday games at 2pm.  But, then again, it has been just a few years.  Holly is right about the yearly opening game as long as we were students at ETHS.  Miss the old Suburban League.

We didn't have "Friday Night Lights" games because ETHS didn't have any lights at the football field until just before I retired from there in 2010. -- Speaking of "Friday Night Lights," did you know that the show's lead, Matt Saracen (sp?), was played by Zach Gilford, a 2000 ETHS graduate?

You all have great memories on who we played opening game, I agree with Kathy that we had no night games because we had no lights. It always reminded me of the Cubs since they didn't have lights back then either

I remember how special it was to spend Saturday's there at the games and being a part of the Pompm Section. ( also enjoyed the hot dogs with the pickle ) I found a orange and blue shaker a few years ago and enjoy all the ETHS associations that go along with it.

Yes, we did kick'em in the other knee that year.  I love to remind my husband, Jim (NT'64) about that very game.  He played for NT and was tackeled just about every time he tried to run with the ball.  We had a picture of one of those plays hanging in the kitchen for years.  He does know some of our guys and they all laugh about it now.  Such a fond memory.

I love reading all these memories of our high school years. After two years, I smile at every recollection of ETHS days.... and how our lives were shaped often by our ETHS friends. Even with time- many of us have stayed connected. Keep the memories rolling.!๐ŸŽฅ ๐Ÿ“ท.

OMG...Coach Trevarthen...I haven't thought about him for years....I worked for Coach Lazar in the Boys' Gym Office for over 2 years during my study halls.  If I remember correctly, Coach Trevarthan shared an office with Coach George & Coach Lazar.

Following is a sampling of photos from the 1963 ETHS Varsity Football Team Hall of Fame induction activity.  More photos can be viewed by clicking on the Hall of Fame Induction link on the home page.

It was really fun to be at the Friday Night Game!  Of course, we won!  A tribute to our to our 1963 winning team.

Fun to watch to cheer squad with more members than the football team.  To see our class of '64 on the field again with the cheers from the stands was amazing. Thanks to Rommie Taylor for setting up the party at the Prairie Moon after the game.  We were proud to be there to celebrate OUR team.
