Thank you Sherrie! I have shared on my Facebook page as my one and only political statement! xo K

Way cool, Sherrie.  I assume 1 of the reason they had to sing the National Anthem at that pace is because of the reverberation in the atrium.  If they sang at a more usual pace the words would get all garbled.  I totally agree with Sherwin/Jay.  It peeves me no end when singers re-invent the song.  It is a powerful piece of music as written.  Also, the focus of the singing of the National Anthem should be on the song, not the performer.  Several summers ago my wife & I + 2 of my work colleagues formed an ad hoc quartet and sang the National Anthem at the beginning of a Durham Bulls baseball game.  This was before they required singers to tryout.  laugh

As a veteran, both songs stirred my heart.  The National Anthem by kids at such a slow cadence - inspiring.  The energy of the Vocal M. especially with the dramtic ending - great.  How lucky Jack was to travel (and sing onstage?) with them.  I sing in our church choir and, having a funeral for a good friend yesterday,  had a chnce to "sing my guts out" to one my favorite songs.  Will try to find a post of it for you.  Thanks folks.

Jay Siegall and his wife, Alyn, were in the Phoenix area for a family event; so this provided an opportunity for an ETHS Class of '64 mini reunion at the "Don & Charlie's" restaurant in Scottsdale.

Great food, great time and so wonderful to spend time with ETHS class mates.

Anyone who will be in Naples Ft Myers area of Florida next Jan, Feb or March 2017 please let me know.

Would like to have another MEET N GREET / Luncheon at my home like we had last FEB 13th.

We had 20 classmates and spouses then. Would like to select a date when the greatest number of classmates might be able to attend.

Also, having just celebrated my 70th on 3-17, Id like to wish all of you celebrating your 70th this year a fabulous Happy Birthday.

Please email me at  jay@siegall.com . Also easy to find on line!

HAPPY DAY TO YOU , Jay, Phil Wanzenberg and I don't have our 70th till Nov. 30(along with Churchill and Mark Twain, but they're a little older), but we all get there sooner or later, some got there last year(Chuck Schultz, if I remember right)

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY

Dear Stephen,

Thanks for such a nice response and very nice to hear from the "young people" in our class.  I would like to let you know that families think the 70th birthday is a major event.  I was very lucky to have all my children and my grand-daughter come to my home and we had a wonderful four day weekend - my birthday was on a Friday.

I am sure there are pretty many 70 birthdays this year and I wish everyone a great time.

All the Best,  Chuck

As of February 15, I'm officially an active Septuagenarian.  I still live in SoCal (since 1973) and have no intentions of relocating much to my Illinois family's dismay.

Dear Betty,

Congratualtions on your Birthday and you are joining our group.  I thought I would let you know I lived in Southern California for 11 years after high school - University of Southern California and then UCLA Medical School.  I thought the same as you about living there, then got a Fellowship in Bethesda, MD.  My son lives there and I see him regularly - we go to the Coliseum to see the Trojans. However, I am no longer surfing on my trips!  The Best to you on your Birthday.  Chuck Schulz

I remember those "cut-off" dates for kindergarten on.  Those summer birthday classmates always made me feel old.  I enjoyed reading about your 70th, Chuck, as mine is just around the corner, although it will be a

140tieth as a dear friend, a day older, and I cannot bear the 'big ones' so combined for 100, 120 and now for 140.  I will have the same fabulous family-surround of two sons, daughter from Paris, and 3 year old grand-daughter, as will my companion-in-age.  As it will be near Salt Lake City, Utah, we will be expecting either temperatures of 90 or snow.  Cheers to our birthday chain!

Just heard that Dave's Italian Kitchen suddenly closed and is no more.  I know it opened slightly after our time, and some of you may not know it; but it was such a great Evanston institution for more than 40 years.  Very sorry about its demise.

Earthly Pains (Eartheritis)

Can the world get better, can earthly pains

Be healed by human skills with our science?

Or will our science fail as man disdains

It’s truth, ignoring the need for compliance

With treatments that can prevent diseases,

That cause earthly pains, an epidemic,

A pestilence of wheezes and sneezes,

A fever that makes everybody sick,

And causes delirium, a belief

That is beyond science, a mystical

Hallucination, where there is relief

From earthly pains beyond the physical,

These are the questions, and we know the way,

But will we travel on it, this earth day?

OUCH!

Robert Lindner

The following is posted on behalf of Jack & Jerri McCabe.

On May 23, 2016, several of our ETHS Class of '64 classmates got together at Bob Deaver's home in the St. Louis area (along with a few friends from New Trier) before going together to a Cubs / Cardinals baseball game (which the Cubs lost).  From left to right in the following photo, with their significant others:

Ken Aaggard (New Trier), Chuck Thompson, Bob Deaver, Jack & Jerri McCabe, Greg Udell, Tom Payne and Tom Aaggard (New Trier).

Just thought I would chime in with birthday wishes for all of you geezers.  I won't turn 70 until next March!  When we were in high school, I hated having to wait until the end of junior year to get my drivers license but now I'm glad to be at the back of the pack!

RAVINIA NIGHT 2016 - Patti LaBelle & The Commodores

After a gloomy start to the day, the weather cleared, leaving us blue skies and mild temperatures for our first Ravinia gathering.  Classmates Betsy Steinmetz Brace Blum, Sue Blumenfeld Zipkoff, Roger Dorio, Carolyn Lehman Potter, Steve Harrison, Fred Brostoff and our significant others enjoyed good music, weather, food, and conversation.

I wish I could have gone......I had scheduling conflicts.  When I lived in Lenox, Massachusetts, Tanglewood Music Festival was a couple of miles down the road from my home.  I went there all the time.  There is nothing like sitting out under the stars and listening to fabulous music and eating a meal that I brought.  If there is a Ravinia planning next time with classmates, I would like to attend.  It looks like everyone had a great time.

Great photo -- this looks like so much fun! Ravinia remains a magical place in my memory. These days my summer outdoor venue is the Hollywood Bowl, also magical in a different way.
