I just want everyone to know how excited I am that the Cubs are going to the world Series!!!! Anybody have a ticket??!!

Sherwin "Jay" Siegall

Sad Ernie and Ron, Brickhouse and Carey not here to enjoy it!!I'm afraid to find out how much a ticket will be. I'll bet some seats sell for more than my dad made in a year in 1964!!!

A birthday present for all of us, I think! (Although I'm still enjoying my last week-plus of being in my sixties.

Just wondering if any of my fellow high school baseball players remember receiving FREE Unreserved Grandstand Tickets for ALL Cubs home games all four years we were at E.T.H.S.  Yes, back in our high school days it was common for the lovable loser Cubs to draw only 5 - 8,000 fans a game.  So, old man Wrigley gave out free season passes to all high school baseball players (Frosh, Soph, JV, & Varsity) on 400 City of Chicago and suburban baseball teams.  Due to the low attendance, they had Unreserved Grandstand seats back in the day, and after the first half of the first inning all of the Andy Frain Ushers would mobilize in the aisle between the Box Seats and the Grandstands and with a mighty wave of their arms indicate to all us "kids" we could move down into the unoccupied Box Seats and sun behind both of the dugouts for the remainder of the game.  By doing so, when the WGN cameras focused on the Box Seats when a foul ball was hit, it made it look like there was a big crowd at the game.  And, who knows, we might have bought a hot dog or two, and a Coke to help the vendors out.  Old man Wrigley was a shrewd marketer, and it sure made for some enjoyable summer vacations during high school.  I probably went to 25 or more games each summer.  So, if that experience doesn't make one a lifelong Cubs fan, I don't know what will.  Cubs will win the World Series in 4 or 5 games so the celebration can be in front of the Wrigley faithful.  We all deserve that.  Go Cubs Go!!!

Although I was raised as a White Sox fan, I've enjoyed watching the Cubs' success this year.  For the sake of my 101 year old father who's an avid Cubs fan, I hope they win it all.

It is so great to see the spirit for the Cubs in my classmates - even from White Sox fans.  I remebber my grandfather set things up for me to sit with Brickhouse in the summer after sixth grade.  What a wonderful experience and mad me a Cubs fan ever since. This is another time to be sorry I am not living in Evanston, but I sure will watch all the games.  Best fun to all my classmates,  Chuck

I moved to California in 1969 and then to FLorida in 2011. I have been a Cub fan for all these years. I think Wigley field is the best balkpark in beauty and fun to watch. I have  posted some great pictures from the scores on facebook. Fred I love your pictures especailly the one about the Goat, This team is so much fun to watch. They are having a ball playing baseball and bringing cheers from all over the world. We will be rooting for them to  win and drive the city crazy all in a good way. GO CUBS GO

Hi Classmates,

Am wondering if we have any active or retired geologists among us.  We have a daughter who is very interested in pursuing a masters in igneous petrology (if I have that right).  I'd love to chat with someone who is knowledgeable in the field.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you!

I just want to throw my hat in there, too. I'm all for the Cubs! My sister (class of '63) and her husband live in Chicago and are big Cubs fans. So I've absorbed the excitement through osmosis...Just want to say Victor, what a great story! And Chuck, too.

I'm not sure I can watch each game. My stomach was in a knot last night and I don't even know any of the players. I used to live at Wrigley Field. I had one of Billy Williams' broken bats. I probably knew every players number and batting average. I stayed up at night when they had away games. They have to win. Go Cubs!!!!

My son & his girlfriend made a trip to Chicaog this past summer for the express purpose of attending a Cubs game a Wrigley Field.  They stayed at an Air B&B place in Wrigleyville near the park.  Of course, they did some other site seeing while in Chicaog, but seeing the Cubs play was their primary purpose.

If the Cubs win the World Series the next major event will be hell freezing over and it just so happens there is a municipality in Michigan named Hell.  Paradise, MI is in the Upper Peninsula.

Even I -- uninterested in sports since high school -- have caught Cubs' fever. I took my daughter Elizabeth to Wrigleyville when we were in Chicago last fall and bought her a Cubs cap, which she's worn faithfully. I shot this two weeks ago in Centennial Park in Nashville, where she lives. (I'm the shadow holding the camera.) Oops, I didn't know how to properly adjust the size. Fly the W!

And here's the late songwriter Steve Goodman's ("City of New Orleans") performing a clever, poignant Valentine to his beloved Cubs. (I knew Steve briefly in college.) Enjoy!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xBxZGQ1dJk

Hi classmates,

I too am excited for the Cubs. My good friends here in Joplin are from Ohio and the bets are placed. There is a steak dinner on the line. I enjoy catching up with all of your through your messages. I glad this forum continues past the reunion.  God Bless  John Kough

Maybe it's a good thing the Rangers tanked in the playoffs. Now my loyalty will not be divided. Go Cubbies!

This is bringing back memories of taking the El down to Wrigley Field several times while at ETHS to watch the Cubs get thumped, even with the great trio of Banks, Santo, and Williams. And who could forget Moose Morin (spelling?) crashing into the right field wall before they put pads on it?

Go Cubs!

Those day’s home sick,

faking it to miss

a test or a deadline,

listening to the Brick”s

Hey Hey,

passing time till Kate

sang the Early Show in with

the moon comes over the mountain…..

Wrigley was always more than

Juicy Fruit to me--

Ernie, Ron, Billy, Ralph,

Chuck (the rifleman) Connors,

And the guys on the next block

Roger, Bill, Wally, Fred.

Our father’s mowed

that wavy acre on the corner

of Church and Springfield

into a diamond,

and many afternoons

Spring through Autumn

we stepped up, stand ins

for the great and lowly Chicago Cubs.

The days the Cubs were off,

we stood in the outfield in

Central Park across from

St. Joan of Arc and

flipped our baseballs ourselves,

swung our bats at the backstops

in a game of Over the fence

If we were lucky,

Jack Quinlan came out and joined us,

And while we played, we honored him

and them by doing play by play

—Now batting, Jeff Liebman….

…Billy Zimmerman swings and hits a long

ball….way back…..waay back…..its going….

its going…..its going…..its gone

Hey Barry: loved listening to Jack Quinlan. Did he live by you? That had to be neat.  Wonder if he took the Skokie Swift to Work at Wrigley? Good to see you on the site!!
