This is the first time I posted a message. After being appointed assistant '64 ETHS webmaster under Fred B., I started reading the posts and alot of profiles. Learned more about ETHS and our class. One goes thru life working with friends that happened to be nearby.- in classes, homerooms, E-W-N-S halls, work, fraternities, spouses, family, hobbies. Our ETHS website expands that circle. In my case, some of my most vivid recalls were from Nichols Jr HS - Class 6-8/7-8. I found the old yearbooks today. In our JH class was Chere Allan, Winston Alt, John Baackes, Andrea Baur, Jonathan Childress, Barbara Cohen, Robert Dougherty, Steven Fivelson, Patrick Furlong, Donald Hall, me (Art Hallstrom), Diane Hanegan, Ilene Katz, Richard Kujawa, Marion Landwehr, Robert Linder, Bruce Lomar, Ronnie MacDougall, Veronica McBride, Mitchell Polk, Rodney Pretzel, Bonnie Robertson, Nancy Ryan, Cheryl Sanders, Richard Schwanbeck, Louise Seyl, Ben Stewart, and Steve Wolnick.  I wonder how many of them graduated from ETHS 4 years later?  Now, our class has created the Jack Rakove Award. Really neat. Biut we need to get over the top to make it permanent. So, I will making a second donation to help it along. (Other classmates are also making second donations.) Cheers.

The following message was written by Carol (Simon) Kohn:

It is with deep sadness that I report the passing of my mother, Babette Simon, at the age of 95, at about 6:30 PM Hawaii time on Wednesday, September 2, 2015.

Between August 5th and 12th, I'd gone out to see her for the very last time on an "emergency flight" to Honolulu, where she'd been living with my sister Jean (ETHS 65).  While I was in Honolulu with Mom, she was already having problems with dementia and also Alzheimer's as she didn't even recognize me.

In lieu of flowers, we are suggesting charitable contributions to the Alzheimer's Association in the name of Babette Simon.

Feel free to contact me at:  Mrs. Carol  Kohn/4901 Golf Road #307/Skokie, Illinois 60077-1419.

                                                                A sobbing classmate,

                                                                 Carol (Simon) Kohn

Carol - My deepest sympathy to you and your family.  The loss of a parent is difficult.  When all of us are growing up, we never envision that someday we will lose our parents.  They always seem to be there for us through all our difficultiess and our successes.  Although your mother is with her maker, the fond memories you have of her will sustain you   She may not be here in the flesh, but she is always with you wherever you are and she lives on in you.........Jan

Lynn Bender (Cary)

I contributed to the Rakove fund a couple of months ago in memory of my Mother Nancy Barry Bender class of 31 and her 2 brothers E Philip Barry + William H Barry. We moved to Evanston in 1949 for the Evanston schools. I got a reply from ETHS for my donation but they must have not put it in the class fund (Rakove).

My deepest condolences to Carol and Jean!  I remember Babette as a warm, intelligent lady.  Didn't she used to be a teacher?  It was great to see her a year ago in the park for the Shakespeare Festival presentation.  I'm glad she had a long life, and was active up until almost the very end.  I know we all will miss her.  I will donate to Alzheimer's, which hangs like a sword of Damocles above us all - and let me know when you are sitting shiva.  Love,  Sue Spiegel Pastin

Lynn Bender, please look at the 1964 class web site site. You and your generous donation and dedication are mentioned twice: on the opening page and the Rakove link page (see the list at the end). Thank you.

Hi Everyone,

I thought this would be a fun and enjoyable Utube video to watch - particularly due to it being songs from our era, and also because it's US Navy people performing.  I hope you can open it here, but if not, maybe you can cut and paste it into your browser.  Enjoy!

Thanks, Sherrie, for sharing the Navy singers with us.  Since the music synchs with our high school years, I've posted the video in the website "Class of '64 Photo Gallery" with other song videos from "our era".

FYI:  I change the songs every few months for your entertainment enjoyment.  If anybody has one or more specific songs that they'd like to see posted, let me know and I'll try to accommodate.  Send your requests to me at fred2m@comcast.net.

I can't turn it off!!!!!

Maybe it is because I was in the Navy, too.

This was so much fun to watch. I always thought the songs of the 60s were the best songs and they were so danceable. I can't believe how much these singers sounded like the original artists. This was a real treat for me and the fact that members of the U.S Navy were performing made it extra special. Thanks for sharing this

Sherrie,

Many of those 60's songs are still deeply embedded in my consciousness, whether I want them there or not. I have to admit that after 50 years, whenever I hear the song "Sherry", it reminds me of you. And the Navy group did a great job performing it!

They just don't write them like this anymore. These songs still hold up, and not just for us. My grandgirls like them, too. Thanks for the walk back in time.
