Wonderful, Robert.  We have the lyricist, now who will compose the music?

Yamo

Everyone knows, it will be a good show

But before Broadway, it’ll be in Yamo

And that’s just the place I want it to be

Cause that’s where it is in my memory

Jay,  have you received your transcript yet?  Mine has not arrived.  I first ordered it October 10.  They said they did not receive it, but the $5 debit on my card tells me otherwise.  I ordered again a few days later.  Nothing yet!

Happy I do not need if for college, otherwise I would have missed my first semester.

Well, there always seems to always be bad news along with the good.

The good news is that I did much better in class rank than I first conveyed.  My apologies to all of you who were counting on me.  The bad news is that I do not qualify for the 800 Club, a Club for those with an 8 in front of their class rank (there are 62 of you out there).  My class rank is a solid 789 out of 862 official graduates in our class.  A stellar 4.06 grade point average, I might add!  I missed the 800’s by 11 students.  This still places me solidly in the bottom 10% of all graduates.  There are 73 graduates who performed more poorly than I.  I am not sure how that is possible as my grades were 4’s and 5’s with few exceptions, those being for non-academic courses, with the exception of the one 3 in biology due to cleaning test tubes after class.

It is now up to Jay to come forward to report his transcript results.

Preston:

The news IS UGLY! Transcript received!! This may be too close to call!

I am most disappointed in the number revealed on my transcript. I fear an incompetent person with lower standing than what I have been claiming has made a terrible miscalculation with my precious but easily obtained crappy grades at ETHS UNIVERSITY and provided me with an unreliable number to offer in this most important matter!

The number 891 out of 919 has been indelibly etched in my memory for 50 years, from the moment I saw it on some official ETHS document provided me 50 years ago. I now will have to devote my remaining years to recovering that document which my wife possibly disposed of while she distracted me. While I was a crappy student, I have been a great saver of usefull (to me) old crap!

I am very sentimental and nostalgic. My stuff (crap she says) includes my Oscar Mayer Wienermobile collection of some 20 different items ranging from full size pedal car (which my wife let my beautiful grandchildren use for a demolition derby) to hats and numerous whistle variations, model cars, banks etc!

While you may be feeling cocky at this moment in time, as one of the most famous Yogi's of our time once said "it ain't over till its over" That would be a famous Yankee should you need the hint.

Yes, I do have the book of Yogiisms!!

Living in Florida, I may be forced to demand a recertification of this atrocious calculation you and I have been given. I trust neither!! There may be hanging chads to deal with!!!

Preston, you deceived me all those years ago. I could swear you told me a number beginning with 8.

Jay, you may have to pop for the 5 bucks in order to duke it out with Preston.

Great local dinner with classmates Renee Sherer Schleicher, Elaine Borland Purnell, and Judy Anderson. Others planned to come but had to bail at the last minute. Next monthly dinner is January 14 in Evanston (December is too crowded). Remember, friendships need nurturing, so go out to eat regularly with old/new friends.

Hey, Ho, The Wind And The Snow

When that I was and a little tiny boy,

With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,

A foolish thing was but a toy,

For the rain it raineth every day.

Feste in Twelfth Night by W. Shakespeare

When Monday came, I thought, I’d try

To meet with class mates from long ago,

But the wind was fierce and howled so I,

With a hey, ho, the wind and the snow,

I must admit, I was not too brave,

With a hey, ho, the wind and the snow,

It scared me so I stayed in my cave,

Said sorry, nasty weather, you know,

I’ll stay inside and avoid the cold,

With a hey, ho, the wind and the snow,

I like my comforts, now that I’m old,

I’ll stay warm and let the wind go blow,

I’ll try again the next meeting – right?

With a hey, ho, the wind and the snow,

Hope there won’t be a blizzard that night,

“Rain, it raineth every day,” you know,

But snow comes and goes, A Winter’s Tale,

Another play, next time for sure, I’ll go,

Here’s hoping that there won’t be a gale,

With a hey, ho, the wind and the snow,

And with a hey, ho, hey-nonny-no,

Another play and another night,

I’ll keep trying, till I get it right.

Robert

Robert - I was supposed to go to that same meeting with classmates.  Bad weather with freezing rain kept me away too.  See you in January.

To any classmates living in the vicinity of the North Carolina Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill Triangle, the group here is getting together for lunch on Monday, Dec. 15 at 1:30 at Mimi's Cafe in Cary.  We would love to have anyone who might be traveling through or living in cities nearby join us.

Dear Ruth,

I don't live in the RDU area, but do come for the Full Frame Doc Festival in April.  Don't know if you ever go, but I'll let you know when I will be there.

Yours, Alice Elliott

Happy 2015 (Could be worse… Could be 2014)

It could be worse, it could be raining” Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder 40th anniversary

“In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy
'Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy” By Bobby McFerrin

“And spread sunshine all over the place,
Just put on a happy face!” From Bye, Bye Birdie lyrics by Lee Adams

This new year’s poem was difficult to write,
Because Twenty Fourteen was such a mess,
But I wanted to keep the future bright,
And Twenty Fifteen’s anybody’s guess,

After all, so why worry? Reminds me,
Of a song that Bobby McFerrin sings,
About the happiness that there can be
When you keep looking for the best in things,

So, though winter solstice is not yet here,
I’ll imagine the sun and longer days,
I’ll imagine the spring and the new year,
And remember the old year’s yesterdays.

I’ll try to sort the good times from the bad,
And leave the baggage of those frowns behind,
Keep that happy face, not the one that’s sad,
I’ll try to clear the worries from my mind,

But there are many problems to address,
Though they’re not my problems, not directly,
They could affect my future, cause distress,
But I’ll keep thinking they won’t affect me,

Won’t worry, and keep my happy face on,
This new year’s going to be a good one,
Much better than the one that’s almost gone,
With happy faces smiling like the sun,

So much better, because all those I love,
Will smile, and will put on a happy face,
When new year’s sun rises in skies above,
We will spread sunshine all over the place

Next year, with happy faces to put on,
As we sing to the happy new year’s sun,
We’ll be happy that the old year is gone.
Don’t worry, peace and love to everyone.

Happy Twenty Fifteen, stop complaining.
Because “Could be worse…How? … Could be raining.”

Robert

Robert: I was never a big fan of poetry, but yours are very enjoyable. You are very talented. The only think I can do with competence is getting my debits to equal my credits.

Thank you, Robert, for putting a smile on my face.

Few of us cheer for the rain.

But, I do here in Seattle,

for it's my happy place.

Thanks for for the poem, Robert!  Have a great 2015!

I so loved reading your poem and do know the importance of enjoying the moment and "being here now."

Wishing the class of l964 a wonderful happy and healthy new year.....

HEY Robert,

Again, an excellent poem, yes it could be raining, and then it could freeze, but not where I'm living, especially with "global warming". But I'll pray, for the classmates who still live up north. We have these signs all over Georgia that say "BRIDGES FREEZE BEFORE ROADWAYS" . Never seen it in south Georgia where I live but we do have mountians in the north. HAPPY HANNUKAH!!! AND A BLESSED NEW YEAR!!!smiley

For those of you who remember Priscilla Maltbie, ETHS class of '66, I just found out she died on 12/16.  The obituary has no details.  I know that because of the physical impairment of being a paraplegic, she was living in a nursing home in Long Beach, CA, the last few years, but she was always positive and able to produce some wonderful books for children that were getting great recognition.  I was saddened by the news of her death, as she was a truly lovely individual with a great sense of humor and beautiful soul.

HAPPY CHANUKKAH TOO

On The Menorah

For two thousand two hundred years or so,
Chanukkah lights have commemorated,
When in Jerusalem of long ago,
The great temple was rededicated.

That happened in 165 B.C.,

And now I light the Menorah lights again,

And say the prayers that were taught to me

By my grandfather, who lit the candles, when

I was a boy, a memory appears,

That never ends, and returns, when I light

The candles for this year and all the years,

And all the candles, that glow bright each night

On the Menorah of my family,

The wish of Chanukkah to you from me

The Family Menorah

On the Family Menorah, the lights

Are lit again, each candle has a name,

A prayer, and a history of nights,

With grandfather and grandmother, who came

With the Family Menorah and crossed

An ocean to light their candles, and pray

For peace, after times when all that seemed lost,

Returned in the lights of this holiday,

That are lit again, with my memories

Of the names and faces that smile and sing

The blessings of the season, across seas,

They came with lights that give us everything.

And so with joy, we light the lights anew,

As family because it’s all of you.

Robert
