Lauren.

we are all so fortunate to have been born in thre U.S. When we were at ETHS, little did we know how much common history some of us are now sharing. My pternal roots atre from Ukraine and my maternal roots are further west in Austria/Hungary/ LIthuania. All from little villages that suffered from the Czar's pogroms. My grandparents were luvky enough to make it to the U.S. in the early 18900's giving birth to my parents here.

Then I came along . The lesson for us is to never forget our roots and give thanks we had very tough ancestors who somehow made it against great odds.that strength seems to stilll be alive in the Ukraine.

Be well and safe.

Robert,

Your poetry is truly a gift and I'm sure all your classmates thank you for sharing your gift with us so generously. Irrespective of the subject, your messages are clear and motivating for all of us.

thanks again,

Best,

The email stream about Ukraine, Russia, and the many but similar ways our families have settled in the United States has been fascinating.  Thank you for sharing your backgrounds, especially Muriel for her perspective on the limitations of real news in Russia.  As much as we complain about the "fake news" that has become endemic in the past five years, we still have so many options to help us separate the phony (and the phonies!) from the real.  If there has been any blessing that has come from Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it is an appreciation of the freedoms that our ancestors struggled so hard to achieve.

I totally agree with you Renee! Freedom of the press is precious, and worth fighting for.

Agree with all the above, whole heartedly. WELL SAID, Renee!!!!

i am wondering, at very least among my own post-h.s. peer friends, and at most among thuh whole wide world; is there a way we could publish our herein email stream(s) about Ukraine, Russia, war, and poetry more publically than here—with permissions of everybody involved, and with identities of all who wished withheld.

it is extremely poignant to me.  and i think it would inform immensely the world discussion at hand rite now.

this portion of our site is private, right, and not available for public access or consumption?  Fred?

Dear Classmates,

On my birthday I want to thank all who have sent (phone call, email, this media) me prayers and thoughts for a speedy recovery.  Alluded to in a few of my birthday greeting responses, I had coronary by-pass (3) surgery on Valentines Day.  I am especially grateful for this 76th birthday and those to come.  I expect to be back on the golf course by the 14th of May given the positive indicators to date.  FYI...symptoms reappeared last year similar to those I experienced in 2009 when two stents were inserted:  2022 was destined to be different!  Here's my verse to commemorate the event:

On Cupid's Watch...02/14/2022

Valentines Day gave me a new start.

Not like a new job, career or theatrical part; but,

A real one lodged in my aging heart.

You see, through the miracle of coronary by-pass surgery,

I now have altered pathways (3) to bring life giving oxygen to formerly damaged arteries.

So, if you gave or received cupid's devotion through flower or card,

Know in some distant-subconscious way,

Maybe...you were collectively praying for me on Valentines Day?

Don, I am so glad to hear you are on the mend following your surgery. You were always a fighter so dig down deep and do whatever it takes to recover and stay well. Believe me, I know what itis like to be at the bottom of the barrel healthwise and the effort required to get back out. So, be well, be happy and never, never, ever give up just like a real Wildkit would do!

Best wishes,

Lincoln

Hi Don,

I want to wish you well.

So I hope that bypass keeps

Going strong. That is the usual

Case with what is called

"Cabbage Surgery." I was

Trained in surgery and that

procedure was one of the traing

Tools at Hennepin County when

I was at Uof Min. The story is in

A poem. Of course.

Be well/Stay well

Robert Lindner

Cabbage Surgery and The GSV

Coronary artery bypass graft

Surgery (CABG) is a craft

Called “Cabbage Surgery,”

And assisted by me,

When I took surgery

At Hennepin County Hospital, staffed

By a heart surgeon,

Who’d do the bypass, but it would begin

With me and a thigh, where

I’d take some veins from there

To be grafted with care

From aorta to the artery in

The heart that needed to

Be bypassed to get the healthy blood through

A blocked coronary

Artery. Surgery

Was with the GSV

Great saphenous vein which was used to do

The bypass and I was

Being trained then to remove it because

That was easily done.

By trainees. I was one

Back then and with caution

Removed the vein which would bypass the flaws

In the heart’s artery.

And that was one type of coronary

Artery surgery,

Using the GSV.

It’s the most commonly

Used procedure and once was done by me.

DINNER IN THE DESERT

2022 Arizona Mini-Reunion

On Monday, April 11th, Mark and Dale Goldman hosted a gathering of ETHS Class of '64 classmates and spouses for a barbeque at the beautiful Goldman residence in Cave Creek, Arizona.  Mark and Dale provided a sumptuous spread of appetizers, dinner and desserts...and it was great spending time and chatting with our friends.

In the photo below, our classmates are (from left to right):

Standing:  Jay Siegall, Hank Gideon, Fred Brostoff, Phil Kaplan

Sitting:  Mark Goldman, Suzi Schor Revill, Babs Drew Spero

Hi Don, Your story is inspiring to all of us, especially to me, since I'm going through a health challenge myself. I wish you a rapid and full recovery. Thanks for sharing your story with us!

Don, thanks for sharing what you have been going through. I hope your recovery continues well. After reading what happened to you, I decided to schedule an echo stress test. I had a stent placed in 2006 and assumed since so much time had passed and I have kept my LDL low and have had no problems, that I was in the clear. However, my cardiologist said that the more time that passes, the higher my risk for another MI. Ergo, I have scheduled a stress test for April 26. Naturally, I hope all goes well, but, if there is some problem, it certainly will be better to find out via a stress test than by having another heart attack.

Best,

Jack

A friend sent this to me -- maybe you've seen it; maybe it's even been posted on these pages.  But if you haven't seen it, I hope you enjoy it.  No need to stand -- no one's watching.
