In Memory

James Alcoba

James Alcoba

Kathy Miehls just received information from the ETHS alumni office advising of the passing of classmate James M. Alcoba on May 3, 2023.

Kathy knew Jim since kindergarten at Lincolnwood School, through Haven Middle School, and again at ETHS.

Jim met the love of his life, Marilyn Jean Szczepaniak (also a 1964 classmate), at Oak Street Beach in Chicago. They married May 29, 1965 and had two children. She passed away in 2016.

Jim sat in front of me in home room for 4 years.  He was quiet but eventually we got to know each other and he even asked me to go with him to see car races, one of his great loves.  We had memories during our 4 years ending in a very sad one when we learned of JFK's death.

So glad he found his soul mate with Marilyn.  Rest in peace together, dear friend

Jimmy (he will always be Jimmy to me) and I grew up next door to each other on Payne Street.. ah memories.  I remember the summer he repaired the fence between our houses.  I would whip up chocolate milk shakes for him to help cool him down.  He was so appreciative......it was obvious from his smile.  Enjoy the shakes in heaven, Ji,,

Donna, I've been waiting for you to see and comment on Jim(my to me, too) and his passing. I live in Evanston (never left) and everytime I drive past your houses on Payne, I think of both of you. Long-time ago memories. Hope you are well. And, Jimmy, RIP.
