Howie and I have been friends since high school. In college, we were fraternity brothers. The summer after graduation, we traveled throughout Europe together—the first time either of us had been out of the country. We seriously got on each other's nerves but managed to remain good friends—for which I give him most of the credit. Over the years since, every time we met he would give me a beaming "Love you, Gar!" and a big bear hug. When I finally told him to cut it the hell out, that it's annoying as crap, he said, "Shut up! I love you!" and gave me a big bear hug anyhow. I kept complaining, and he kept hugging me, but I loved him anyhow. And I have no doubt that he's still hugging us all, too, and that we're all hugging him back.
