William Broman

The following obituary was provided by Preston Cook:

William Roberts Broman, age 75, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, at JourneyCare Hospice Center in Barrington. Bill was born August 23, 1946, in Evanston, the son of Cyrus and Charlotte Broman. He married Melissa "Mickey" Amling Swanson on May 20, 1984 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake.

Bill graduated from Evanston High School in 1964 and graduated from Bradley University in 1969. Bill's career was spent in bank auditing at First National Bank and State Bank in Woodstock, Suburban Bancorp in Palatine, and in bank audit consulting. He ended his career as a bank examiner with the federal Consumer Finance Protection Bureau.

Bill was a 37-year member of Bethany Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities, including church council chairman. He also served as president of the Woodstock Jaycees and was a board member of the McHenry County Chapter of the American Red Cross for several years. Later he was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Fox Valley Sunset, especially enjoying his position as Rotary Foundation chairman.

Bill was a lifelong Cubs fan, cheering them on through thick and thin. He enjoyed the music of the Beatles and ABBA, taking all the kidding about his ABBA mania with a smile. Family was very important to Bill. Bill loved gathering with family at the lake home at Bass Lake, IN that he and Mickey built, where he was known as Captain Grandpa. He loved to travel and enjoyed planning trips. Bill and Mickey traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe with family and friends. Bill dearly loved his dog, Rosie.

Bill will be missed by his wife of 37 years, Mickey of Crystal Lake; three sons: Eric (Margaret) Broman of White Lake, MI, Mark (Aileen) Broman of Lisle, and Jeremy Broman of Lisle; two step-daughters: Heather (Rob) Bernhard of Crystal Lake, and Hilary Swanson (Chris Navta) of Fishers, IN; seven grandchildren: Jacob and Emily Broman, Nathan, Lillian and James Bernhard, and Joseph and Laurel Navta; brother Thomas (Lynn Nyhart) Broman of Barneveld, WI; sister Andrea Broman of New Berlin, WI; sister Penna Broman (Darrell Polka) of Rockford; brother-in-law Michael Amling and sister-in-law Cynthia Dase.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday, March 25 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 26 with visitation one hour before the service, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave. in Crystal Lake. Private interment will be at Ridgewood Memorial Cemetery, Des Plaines.

Bill and I went to Willard together.  Cub scouts also.  Then, like with too many former classmates, we lost track of each other, only to connect on Facebook several years ago.  We were of like mind on the major issues as well as small ones, like the proper feeding of hummingbirds.  I feel a loss.

Sending condolences, Preston. I didn't know him, but it sounds as though he created a fulfilling life. I'm glad you have good memories.

I can't say that I remember William, but certainly we feel another big loss to our large and wonderful class of 1964. He obviously lived a highly accomplished and large life. Many blessings and huge condolences to his loving family!
May you rest in peace!
